Library policies

Our library is a space for learning, curiosity, and community. Please take a moment to review these policies.

Getting a library card

If you live in Tierras Altas (including Volcán, Cerro Punta, Paso Ancho, Nueva California, Cuesta de Piedra, Tisingal, or Caisán), you may get a card and borrow books.

• Bring a copy of a utility bill, lease, or other document with your local address.
• Bring a copy of your cédula or passport (this also applies to children).
• Fill out a library card application.
• For ages 12–18: a parent or guardian must sign and also provide ID and proof of residency.

B/. 5 family card — an adult and immediate family in the same household.
B/. 3 teen card — ages 12–18 who want their own card.

Cards are personal and non-transferable. You are responsible for items checked out on your card. Renew each year. A replacement card costs B/. 2.

Borrowing books

• Two books at a time for two weeks.
• Renew once, in person or via WhatsApp.
• No late fees; please return books on time.
• Children may borrow on a parent or guardian’s card, so a household can take more than two books.
• If a book is lost and not returned within a month of the due date, we ask you to cover the cost (up to B/. 10, more if published in the last four years).

Internet and technology

Free Wi-Fi throughout the library.

• Parents or guardians supervise children’s internet use.
• Public computers: no more than two people per computer.
• Use earphones for music or games on a personal device.

Inside the library

• No food. Drinks with a secure cap are permitted.
• Smoke-free and quiet.
• Leave backpacks with the librarian, on the porch, or on the bookcase at the entrance.
• Phone charging is allowed.
• No running or shouting.
• You may read, study, or relax without a card; only cardholders check out books.
• Treat books, toys, and puzzles with care and put them back.

The library may ask anyone who is not following these policies to leave.
