We are so glad you are here! Our library is a space for learning, curiosity, and community. To help everyone enjoy their visit, please take a moment to review our library policies.

Getting a Library Card

If you live in Tierras Altas (including Volcán, Cerro Punta, Paso Ancho, Nueva California, Cuesta de Piedra, Tisingal or Caisan), you’re eligible to get a library card and borrow books!

Here’s how to join:

  • Bring a copy of a utility bill, lease, or other document that shows your local address (electric, water, internet, phone bill or copy of lease)

  • Bring a copy of your cedula or passport to verify your identity (this also applies to children).

  • Fill out a Library Card Application.

  • For minors 12-18: A parent or guardian must sign the form for the teen card, and also provide ID and proof of residency.

  • $5 Individual and Family Cards – Covers an adult and their immediate family living in the same household

  • $3 Teen Card – For ages 12–18 who want their own card to check out books without a parent/responsible party present.

Library cards are personal and non-transferable. You are responsible for any items checked out on your card. Cards must be renewed each year (B/.5.00 family card, B/.3.00 teen card). If your card is lost, a replacement costs B/.2.00.

Borrowing Books

  • You may check out two books at a time for two weeks.

  • You can renew books once, either in person or via WhatsApp.

  • We do not charge late fees, but we ask you to return your books on time so others can enjoy them too.

  • Children may check out books using their parent or guardian’s card, allowing for more than two books per household.

  • If a book is lost and not returned within one month of the due date, we kindly ask you to cover the cost (up to B/.10.00). If the book has been published within the last four years, it can be more.

Internet and Technology

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the library!

Please note:

  • Parents or guardians are responsible for supervising their children’s internet use.

  • Our public computers are available for use—no more than two people per computer, please.

  • If you’re playing music or games on a personal device, please use earphones.
